Our Patio Makeover - Before & After

Over the summer I did a lot of work to our back patio.  I shared some of it with you along the way, but now that it's all finished I wanted to share the complete before and after, because everyone loves a good before and after, right?

So again, here was our back patio before:

The first thing I did was tare out this bench because it was more of a wall that was blocking the view to the rest of the backyard. More on that can be seen HERE.

The second change I made was that I painted our hot tub.  I was so pleased with how it turned out, I just wasn't so pleased with the orange-y colored fence behind it. See how I painted our hot tub HERE.

So the last change I made to our patio was staining that wall and the railings.  I went to Lowe's and picked up some outdoor stain by Olympic brand and had it tinted in  Driftwood Gray. I was really surprised when the associate at Lowes told me I would be able to stain over the orange color I had before.  I thought it would need to be sanded down first or stained in a much darker color. So I was pleased to find out it could be done.  It did take two heavy coats, but it worked!

Are you Ready to see how it turned out???

TA DA!
The After:

Don't you agree it looks so much better now?  I was so glad to get rid of that orange color and I think the driftwood gray color is really pretty.
After it was all stained, came the fun part of decorating the patio.

I love having This hammock up here. I fill it up with lots of pillows and a blanket to make it more comfortable. It really makes our patio a relaxing place to hang out, especially on these beautiful fall days.

And how fun is THIS metal Relax sign from Hayneedle? As soon as I saw it on their website I knew I had to get it for above our hot tub.

We sure do enjoy our hot tub, and now with the patio looking much better than it did before, we now enjoy spending even more time in it.

I brought out a few more accessories from inside our home like some plants and This metal lantern with rope trim.

And of course, I kept my collection of solar Chinese lanterns, wind chimes, and my DIY driftwood mobile because they are so fun to look at and listen to as we sit in the hot tub late at night.

The best part now is just coming up here to the patio, and either laying in the hammock or sitting in the hot tub and look out into the backyard.  The tree's are all turning red and yellow and it really is just a relaxing space to be in.

So again, let's just take one last look at the before.

And After:

What a world of difference.
