Garden Retailers, consumers prefer shopping with you. That is, consumers polled by the Garden Writers Association Foundation (GWAF) 2010 Early Spring Gardening Trends Report before March it 3-6.

The report notes that 54% of consumers will buy most of their spring garden plants in garden centers, with 37% to choose large boxes for most of their purchases. In 05, as GWAF this data began tracking, planned only 40% of respondents to buy most of their Spring plants in garden centers, compared to 51%, favoring the mass merchants.

Seeking "best quality" (46%) is the number 1 factor for consumers when, where to shop to choose plants. The second biggest factor is the access to a "trained and educated sales staff" in 2010. "Best price" at 32% in 09 from 24% jumping falling from second place in 09 (26%) to third place this year (19%.)

• 43% plan retailers use planning for their spring garden, while 37% are planning knowledge to gain from their neighbors
• More plan to use books and periodicals than a third (34% and 31%, respectively) for their spring garden planning.
• 66% plan to grow their own vegetables this year.
• 76% are motivated to grow their own vegetables, because it obtained vegetables with better quality, taste and nutrition.
• 52% say they plan to have a medium (20 ft. X 20 ft.) Or large
• (20 ft. X 40 ft.) Vegetable garden in 2010 GP
